Clutter FREE Me Day 2: Monsters Under the Bed

{Source}

First, I must apologize for this late post! You need time each day to organize your space. The whole point of this organization series is to make time for things that are important. Poor time management on my part. Sowwie! I'm learnin and workin on myself right along with you, reaching our zenith, remember? So that's the good thing!

Now, for the business....

Are you waking up many times during the night?
Do you have restless sleep often?

Well, it could be because you need to clear those little monsters from under your bed. And by monsters I mean clutter!

Those who practice Feng Shui believe that clutter under the bed strongly affects your peace of mind, especially when you sleep. Clutter blocks what is called chi-- a vital force or energy that is generated in the body and can be sent out into your environment. Now, think of your body. If you're eating a lot of fatty foods then your body and veins will become clogged. This is much like your home. The veins are each room. If your room or space is cluttered then the energy cannot flow, it's clogged :(

So, in order to keep the chi or positive energy flowing then we must clear the mess from under our beds.

1.Take everything from under your bed. Tennis rackets, jeans, one supposedly long lost shoe whose match is in your closet. Yes, take it all out.

2. Because there is probably stuff that needs to be thrown out or put somewhere else, you need to sort them into piles.
When I clean I sort into these piles:

  • Another room (different pile for what part of the house it should go in
  • Stays here
  • To file (especially important if you're dealing with a lot of paper)
  • Trash
  • Giveaway
3. After you've done this, take the items that belong somewhere else to that somewhere else. (You can choose to organize these items right then or later). Doing this will allow for more space to work with as you clean under your bed.

4. Put items in the right place in your bedroom, If they don't have a place, make a place for them.

5. File those papers. If you don't have a system for filing, stay locked in. I will be giving tips for that in Week 3: Office/Workspace

6. Trash those things you no longer need and pack the bag for the items you want to giveaway.

 Please keep in mind:

*How long this process takes depends on how much stuff you have to organize.

*Also, if you have drawers built into your bed, like me, or storage containers, the things within them still need to be organized.

And there you go, you're one step closer to freeing yourself from your clutter in your bedroom and possibly
getting some real, uninterrupted sleep!

Bonus Stress Free Tip: If you do have restless sleep and are worrying about all the things you need to do the next day, keep a notepad next to your bed to write a to do list that will be right there for you in the morning. I also use my bedside notepad to write down project ideas, thoughts, quotes I hear, books I want to read, and any other random thought that I may forget the next minute if I don't write it down.

What ways do you tame your under-the-bed-monsters clutter? Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments!

Clutter FREE Me Day 1: Get Outta Bed...

{Source}

...And make it! Starting your day with this simple tip will change your outlook, I promise. It's time to finally listen to Mama when she used to say, "Go make up your bed! Your room is not clean until your bed is made." At least that's what my mom used to say...and still does. It's true though, not to mention how refreshed you will feel when you get home from work or school to a made up bed perfectly ready for another night of sweet sleep. Do you love sleep as much as I do? :)

Here's the key:
As soon as your wake up and are ready to get out of bed, make it up right at that moment!
1. Lay down, grab the sheets and comforter, and  pull them up to your head
2. Next, make up the side farthest from you
3. Get out of bed and make up the side of which you got out
4. Arrange the main pillows
4. And toss those throw pillows on. I mean they are called "throw" pillows, it seems appropriate. Plus tossing your throw pillows on the bed can be your first act of creativity for the day. Think of it as art:)

*Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect. When I don't have time, I don't even tuck the sheets under the mattress :O Just make sure the sheets don't make any ripples (you can see) under the comforter.

Even if your room has bras hanging out of the drawers, and a month's worth newspapers scatterered on the floor, your room will be instantly transformed as soon as your bed is made.

So, make up your bed tomorrow morning, you will not be disappointed:)

What is the hardest thing about making up the bed for you??

Clutter FREE Me Organization Series

{Source}

Today starts my Clutter FREE Me Organization Series. For three weeks, on every weekday, I will be giving you one tip that you can put in effect immediately to free yourself from clutter, get organized, and allow space for positive energy in all the places you will be.

Why is it important to be organized?

  • Less Stressful
  • Won't waste precious time looking for that one thing
  • Keep your space open, which will allow a continuous flow of positive energy
  • Save Money!

The Places We Will De-clutter:

  • Week 1: Bedroom
  • Week 2: Bathroom (Updated 1.13.2012)
  • Week 3: Office/Workspace
  • Week 4: Car
No, you don't have to go buy that $300 desk that has all kind of compartments and do-hickies, or a $100 lamp to accessorize your workspace! These are nice things to have if you have the means, but we're gonna get down to business without having a shopping spree at The Organizer Store:) Most of the tips, if not all, will be simple ways to tame your clutter inexpensively. Few materials required.

By the end of the series you should feel mentally free from clutter because all in all, clutter is a state of mind. If your mind isn't ready to be transformed yet, you can at least get your space organized to trick it in the mean time:)

Look out for Day 1: Get Outta Bed...comin' later tonight:)

New Year Look

Happy New Year Gang!

I hope you all had a safe New Years:) I took part in a surprise birthday party, which was fun. My husband's friend wanted to surprise his wife with a party because she never gets one-- Her birthday is Christmas Eve:( So, I took her to Starbuck's, letting her know it was a belated bday gift, which it was, but it also doubled as a scheme to get her out of the house so her husband could decorate the place before she got back. She was so surprised, she loved it!

Here's my look from New Years, enjoy:)

I took these pictures at the end of the night. My makeup held up pretty well, huh?

I wore a nude gloss, although it had come off by the time I took these pics.

Oh wait! Here's a shot I snapped right after the clock hit 12.
I have nude gloss on in this one:)
It's a rare occasion when I can get Z to look directly in the camera...

I hope your year is filled with joy, great relationships, and sprituality.

Remember This: Weight Loss Goals in the New Year

{Source}

It's that time! My favorite time of year! There is something so refereshing about starting a new year. A time to reflect on your accolodes and mistakes. A time to set new goals for yourself. A time to make you a better you. That's right, if you're blessed, you get another chance to fix all the things you didn't get a chance to fix in the last year.

This is how I view the new year, and this is why I love it so much. :)  Some people make plans to have better finances, or marriages, or organization (which by the way, I have some great organization things planned for the new year ;). And many of us men and women alike plan to be in better shape. This is when you see five weight loss ads in the span of a three minute commercial break. You know you saw that revamped Jennfer Hudson commercial for weight watchers where she is singing with her old, heavier self. The first time I saw that I thought it was weird, but interesting. But I digress...If you have fresh fitness goals for the new year, and either trying to lose a few pounds, eat healthier, or get more toned, it is important to remember that there are many other benefits of practicing a healthy lifestyle besides losing weight.

This article I read on Bodyrock.tv (my now favorite exercise regimen I've ever done and plan to stick with) gives you the real tips on How to Get Immediate Effects From Your Workout.

Check it out, and I'm sure it will give you a new perspective on your fitness goals for the new year.

DIY 10 Year Journal/Calendar

Hey gang!

It is the season of giving; therefore, many are looking for special gifts for the ones they love. If you are looking for a unique gift that will certainly not be duplicated, and a gift that the receiver is sure to love and appreciate, you have come to the right place!

I actually made this gift for mommy on her birthday. You know! The gift that I referenced here. And before that I made it for myself, so I could record my thoughts and blessings for the day.

This gift is perfect for Christmas, Hanukkah, The New Year, and even Kwanzaa (because it's handmade)!

Who could I get this gift for?
  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Aunts, Uncles
  • Cousins
  • Boss
  • Coworkers
  • Professors
  • People in your spiritual circle
Basically, this gift is great for anyone and everyone!

How can I use this 10 Year Calender?
  • Write one blessing a day
  • Record the most memorable part of your day
  • Jot a one or two sentence journal entry
  • Use a combination of all these things!

What do I need?

Index cards
Date Stamp and ink
12 Dividers (CD booklest, postcards, colored index cards, or your own drawings on cardstock)
Pen
Container to hold cards

{Source}

1. Stamp a card for each day of the year

This will be the most time consuming part of this project. If you stay focused you can get all the stamping done in about 2 hours.

Tip: Make sure you have more than 365 index cards, just in case you make mistakes on your stamping. I made quite a few, but that may be the perfectionist in me.

Sorry for the dark photos, I was trying to get these shots in right before sunset :/

2. Write titles on the days that the receiver would deem important

I made this set for me, but on my mother's set I also wrote her birthday at the top. I also wrote my other family members birthdays, anniversaries, and other special days on the appropriate card.

Tip: Many holidays can not be written at the top of the card because they may fall on a different day each year like Thanksgiving.

3. Match up the dividers with a month

This is the fun part! I chose to use cd booklets. They were organized and hidden in my cd case, so I thought they should be brought out into the light and have some real use.

To organize the booklets by month, I thought about the artists' birthdays, what month the album was released, what music I would like to listen to in that month, and the overall feel of the music as it pertains to that month

For example: I put Tchaichovsky (classical music) behind December because it reminds me of the holidays.
Also, my wedding anniversary is in April, so I put my wedding favor cd cover behind April :)

4. Arrange the cards and their dividers, so that the day that the gift is given is in front.

In a picture below, you'll see that I didn't start with January, but instead with my mom's birthday (the day she received it), so that she could start writing in her journal immediately.

5. Put the cards with their dividers in the container

I used a wooden container that I already had; I was looking for a way to use it for months. I spray painted it this burgundy color. I had pics of the process, but they are lost somewhere either on my computer or accidentally deleted. Sorry!
Tip: If you need to spray paint, do it outside! Those fumes are intense and may give you an unexpected and unwanted high if you spray indoors.

Tip: If you have to go out and buy a container, I suggest you bring an index card with you to measure the length of the container. You want to make sure you have the right dimensions for the cards to fit.

I added some marbles on the side to add a little oommph, but also to keep the cards snug tight and in place:)

And that's it!

6. Optional Step: Add a note explaining how to use the DIY 10 Year Calender, and show an example. People may not understand that this calender is to be used for each day of the year for 10 years.

After 10 years, the receiver will literally be able to see how his ideas changed from day to day!
If you choose to create a blessings journal, the receiver will have numerous blessings on which to reflect and be grateful for.

A Bientot and Happy Holidays!
