Seven

Seven means complete....

This song has a great message and represents how one will feel as they're approaching their zenith. As you strive for excellence there will be many obstacles including people that will tell you you're not good enough, or who will distract you from reaching your full potential. But you have to stay focused and confident that what you are doing is right for YOU. I don't know about you, but I'm claiming this as my theme song for the rest of the year;)

"You see I've been running a race, determined to finish in first place, and I won't stop until I make it.
I'm too damn real, yea, to ever have to fake it...."

Love it and I hope you will too...

Style Tip of the Day

Hey gang!! Guess what? It's a full moon tonight, and it's also the 13th. I'm not superstitious at all, but I did notice that when I taught 4th grade, my students acted a little more weird when there was a full moon on the 13th--especially if it was Friday also.

So, I have a quick style tip that may help you when you're feeling sick or blah one day, but you don't want to look it:

Put on an all white blouse or collared shirt!

White Tops

I always feel so fresh when I wear white, so when I don't know what to wear, or if I want to put a boost in my mood, I wear a white top. Plus, white goes with everything. Now, my mom always says that if you feel sick you should wear a splash of pink, whether it be a top, a scarf, or a headband. Buuuuuut I don't like pink, especially the Pepto-Bismol color pink, eew, so I altered my mom's tip a little to make it work for me:)

Labor Act: Yay or Nay?

{Source}

Hey gang! I was busy with school and work this week, but I made a point to catch President Obama's speech last night. Because politics have never really held my interest in the past, I making more of a point to be informed about politics and policies that will affect me, my county, state, and the nation. The president gave a passionate reminder of what most Americans are going through. On the radio yesterday, Michael Baisden said that 59% of American are out of work-- and that statistic does not include people who are working part-time, so this means that even more people, in addition to the 59%, are struggling with part-time jobs because that's all they can get. I was moved by Pres. Obama's emotion and his take-no-shit approach. He had me standing up clappin' right along with congress! :O He made it clear that the American Jobs Act is similar to ones that Democrats AND Republics have voted for in the past. His goal is to make sure that small businesses and regular people have financial security and protection. This is the only way they can get out of the hole of debt and the "barely making it by" status. I loved the speech, but of course, there is always something to distract attention from the truth. I.E.- ABC had no post speech coverage because of a so called Sept 11 inspired terrorist threat that just so happened to be breaking news right after the speech--can they be any more obvious? I hope we pay more attention to the seemingly covert ways that the media gets our mind off of the real issues. Furthermore, if we stay informed they can't trick us!

Did You Know...
  • WTMJ-TV (NBC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin chose to air the pregame of the Packers vs Saints pregame instead of Pres. Obama's speech?
  • President Obama requested an earlier day for the congress to gather, but the congress voted no, and said they would rather meet on this day {many of them knowing, I'm sure, that this was the day the NFL game was scheduled}?

My Take-Aways:
  • Pass the American Jobs Act Now! He said it 16 times during the speech lol
  • The Recession is not an excuse to eradicate the "basic protections that Americans have counted on for decades."
  • So I guess it's ok to sleep during Presidential speeches-- Did you see that one guy dozin' off until the rest of congress got up to applaud-- ridonkulous

What You Can Do:

Call or write to your local congressmen and women and tell them to pass the American Jobs Act and explain how the recession is affecting you and people you know.

Missed the speech? Check out this awesome clip where they have included side notes and useful information to coincide with each of Pres. Obama's talking points during the speech.

Hope this was informative!

Labor Day Look

Hey gang!  We had some friends come over for Labor Day, and Hubby Z cooked a delicious feast as usual! Anywho, I got a make-up tut for ya. I wore this look today. Hope you enjoy!

The look

I was inspired by this look I cut out of a magazine:

The make-up

Circular starting from left :
Coastal Scents 88 Palette
Mac Eye Color Palettes (I created the first one at the store)
Mary Kay Liquid Lip Color : Cherry Coffee
Victoria's Secret's Lip Rush: Lotta Colada
Mary Kay Foundation (I use this as a concealer): Bronze
Mac Blush: Coppertone
Mac Pressed Powder: NW35

First, I used the Mary kay Foundation in Bronze as a concealer on a few blemishes, and then I brushed some pressed powder over the concealer
I covered my eyelid with the NYX HD Primer {the verdict is still out on this one, I'll use until I find something better}

 Primer {NYX HD Primer} + the bronze shade all over the eyelid

I lined the bottom lid with Club

Then I used Plum Dressing line the outer part of the bottom lid and blended a little

Next I added Amber Lights to the inner corner to about half-way of the upper lid

Then lined the outer part of the upper lid with Club and then Plum Dressing on top of that
{not pictured}

I put on some eye-liner and that was it! For the eyes at least...

Because my eyes were pretty vibrant, I wanted to have a simple lip. I used EOS lip balm {the BEST balm} for a smooth gloss application.

Then I put on literally one dab of Mary Kay liquid lip color : Cherry Coffee to give my lips a little color

Then layered lips with Beauty Rush: Lotta Colada

I pulled the purple from the skirt as an accent color for the make-up

Loose Flap Jackets

Gosh, do I love loose flap and asymmetrical jackets! Their like classy with an edge:) I love fashion, but fashion is tres expensive, so when I see something I like, I look for a cheaper look- a- like, or I find something I already have and either cut it up or re-create the desired style. It's not always possible to design the style I want, but it's still a fun project :) In this layout I've included all neutral colored jackets (my fave cause they go with anything)! Pair any of these jackets with a pair of skinny jeans and a cute simple top, and you are automatically glam. Enjoy!

Final Project

{Source}

So, I'm in graduate school getting my master's degree in Liberal Studies. One of the best decisions I have made is doing this program after I taught for 2 years. I've gained so much insight from my teaching experience that I have incorporated in my studies. I'm especially thrilled today because after my first day of Documenting Black Experiences I talked with my prof. for an hour. First of all, let me say that I am so thrilled to be working with an Emmy winner! His work is so great. Anywhooo.. He helped me formulate some ideas for my final project. So, as of now I will be doing research on the eurocentric interpretations of beauty so that I can put together a workshop or a girls club where I can present information that will improve their self-image and build their self-esteem! Whew, that's done! Ok, so now all I gotta do now is do the preperatory research and get my proposal 2gether. I'm really looking forward to this :)
